Caps Unbeaten Streak at Six, Face Senators

LANDOVER, Maryland (Reuter) -- The surging Washington Capitals seek to run their unbeaten streak to seven games Wednesday when they host Ottawa Senators.

Peter Bondra scored twice as the Capitals completed a home-and-home sweep of the New Jersey Devils Saturday.

Washington is 5-0-1 in its last six games and has allowed just 11 goals in that span.

Two main reasons for the Caps' recent surge has been the play of Bondra and newly-acquired Chris Simon. Bondra has three goals and two assists in his last two games and Simon has contributed five goals and four assists in eight games with Washington.

The Capitals are 5-0-1 in their last six home games since a 4-1 loss to Buffalo on October 18.

Ottawa skated to a 3-3 tie with the Hartford Whalers Saturday to move to 0-1-1 in its last two games. The Senators, who are 2-5-2 on the road, have scored just 12 goals in their last six contests.

In other games, the Vancouver Canucks will try to bounce back from a disappointing loss when they meet the first-place Hartford Whalers in the second game of a six-game road trip.

The Chicago Blackhawks continue their six-game road trip when they meet the reeling San Jose Sharks tonight.

The New York Islanders return home hoping to end a five-game winless streak against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Montreal Canadiens look to extend a three-game winning streak when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will be after just their second win in nine games when they host the Buffalo Sabres.
