TCS' Year 2000 process is integrated with a tool kit. The
tool kit is used during the impact analysis as well as the conversion
phases. In the analysis phase, we use the tool kit to identify
date fields and report their impact. In the conversion phase, the
took kit is used for conversion of source programs & data and
testing of the conversion by simulating year 2000 situations. The
tool kit is designed to convert programs using data logic (expansion
of date fields) as well as procedural logic (sliding date window).
The core technology of the tool kit has been kept environment independent. The environment specific details are outside the core. The tool kit can handle programming languages like COBOL, Assembler, PL/1, Mark IV, RPG... on IBM mainframes and AS/400s. The tool kit can be easily customized to other languages and platforms.

Our Approach
TCS performs most of the analysis and the entire conversion offshore - in India. This frees up valuable resources of our clients for other important activities. TCS' offshore methodology is cost effective, and its large number of trained people allow it to scale up manpower quickly, thereby reducing elapsed time. This methodology has been successfully used in many large projects for clients worldwide.
TCS uses satellite communication to link up its software centers in India to client's computer centers. We currently have over 50 point to point and /or multi-point 9.6, 19.2 or 64 KB links to our clients around the world.
