Two separate products comprise the Century Conversion Software system. Century File Conversion Software automatically converts unloaded VSAM/DBMS files, expanding two-digit years to four-digit years. Century Source Conversion Software automates the analysis required of source code to locate date definitions and trace their usage. The information provided by Century Conversion Software includes the inventory of programs and files, the data required to track the progress of the project, and a cross reference of files and programs. This information enables the user to easily determine the project impact.
Century File Conversion Software automates and simplifies the conversion of any file that can be produced in a sequential format. The software automates the manual conversion tasks involved in locating date information and automatically expands that information to include a four-digit year. Following are many unique functions provided by Century File Conversion Software:
Century Source Conversion Software eliminates the manual effort required to locate lines of code that are candidates for change. The software automates the analysis of source code and identifies potential date processing problem areas, and includes numerous report capabilities that also support general maintenance functions. Following are selected features of Century Source Conversion Software:
- Dataset Usage Reports: creates inventory reports of datasets found in JCL and Procedure Libraries;
- Date Reformatting: has the capability to convert more than 20 date formats;
- Record Size: based upon user specifications, expands, contracts or maintains record size (using record FILLER when required);
- Record Formats: processes and converts multiple record formats within one job execution;
- Data Analyzer: analyzes physical data for the occurrences of date information;
- Test Date Simulator: adjusts actual file data to simulate a past/future testing environment that is used to verify program accuracy.
- Multiple Analyzers: The software contains analyzers for COBOL, Assembler/BAL, and RPG. The Language Independent Analyzer addresses PL/1, FORTRAN, APS, TACL, PASCAL, C/C++ and all 4GLs such as SAS, SQL, FOCUS, Easytrieve, and Mark IV.
- Platforms: In addition to addressing MVS and VSE applications, Source also addresses COBOL and TAL on the Tandem platform, and COBOL and RPG on the AS400 platform.
- Date Name Dictionary: This table establishes the search criteria to locate potential date elements. The date name entries are easily modified by the user to provide a basis for the program analysis. By updating the Date Name Dictionary with new search criteria, Century Source can be used for other maintenance projects after the Year 2000.
- Inventory and Tracking: The software tracks all date name references, both indirect and direct, until all chaining events have been exhausted, and also matches files against the reporting features of the File Product. This method allows for 100 percent accuracy in date conversion and provides the information necessary to determine conversion complexity.
