THE MULTI - CENTURY SOLUTION
for mainframe legacy application systems.

Computer Software Corporation's DateServer 2000 software is currently called millions of times each day. It has been solving multi-century date processing problems for legacy application systems since January, 1994.

Process Dates Spanning Centuries
without expensive date field expansion and database conversions.

Prepare for the Next Millennium
without expensive changes to input screens, database fields, reports, etc.

About DateServer™ 2000
The DateServer 2000 solution is about time. It's about preparing your legacy systems for a time in the future, for all time in the future. And it's about saving a significant amount of MIS time in the process. Our solution can deliver these benefits today, in a fraction of the MIS time that other multi-century approaches will require.

ELIMINATE TIME CONSUMING DATA BASE CONVERSIONS.

Many legacy systems, comprised of both online and batch sub-systems, consist of hundreds of programs, thousands of modules, and millions of lines of code. Data files in a legacy system data base may be interactively used by hundreds of programs. The conventional approach to providing multi-century date capabilities requires the conversion of date formats in all data bases in each legacy system. This means new file conversion programs, increased application program changes, complex system testing, and a highly-coordinated data base conversion and software implementation. It will likely take years of MIS time to convert some legacy systems using a conventional approach.

ENTER THE NEW CENTURY WITH EXISTING DATA BASES!

Using the DateServer 2000 solution*, no data base conversions are needed! All of your current legacy system's data base date formats can remain as they are until you decide (if you ever decide) to convert them to a different format. This means that the date formats now used in internal files, reports, screens, input cards, and imported files can remain unchanged. Since no data base conversions are needed, DateServer 2000 saves your MIS team a significant amount of time and resources that your company can invest into other strategic projects.

DATE SERVER 2000
BENEFITS

MULTI - CENTURY SOLUTION FOR LEGACY SYSTEMS

The DateServer 2000 software provides a solution to the problems associated with processing date values after December 31, 1999 when the date values involved have only a two digit representation for year.

NO DATA BASE CONVERSIONS

The DateServer 2000 solution allows legacy application systems using date formats with only a two digit representation for the year to correctly process multi-century dates without converting the application files or data bases. Only programs with date processing problems need to be changed, not all of the programs and all the data bases that contain any date fields with a two digit representation for the year.

NO CHANGES TO APPLICATION PROGRAM PROCESSING LOGIC

DateServer 2000 can compare or manipulate valid or invalid date values without any requirement for new data elements or changes to the application processing logic.

REDUCED MIS COSTS

By eliminating any requirement to convert files or data bases, the DateServer 2000 solution significantly reduces the MIS cost to prepare your legacy systems for processing in the next century. Only programs with date processing problems need to be changed. The major efforts to plan, coordinate, and implement application data base conversions are eliminated.

MINIMAL IMPACT TO CURRENT ENVIRONMENT

DateServer 2000 storage requirement is less than 10K and its efficient assembler routines provide this multi-century solution with minimal impact to application system performance.

STANDARD DATE PROCESSING FOR ALL SYSTEMS

The DateServer 2000 software provides a comprehensive, convenient, and efficient set of date routines for date comparison, calculation, and manipulation that can be used by all systems, not just systems using date fields with a two digit representation for the year.

DATE SERVER 2000
FEATURES

FLEXIBLE 100 YEAR CYCLE

The active 100 year cycle is automatically assigned as a function of the current system’s date, the DateServer 2000 installation date, and a user selected number of years future dating required. It can also be assigned and/or changed periodically by the user.

DYNAMIC CENTURY ASSIGNMENT

The DateServer 2000 software will assign the appropriate century value to any date with only a two digit representation for the year, prior to performing any requested date comparison or calculation. This assignment is based on the position of the date within the active 100 year cycle.

THIRTY SIX DATE FORMATS SUPPORTED

The DateServer 2000 software supports thirty six date formats that include character, packed, and binary representations for Gregorian and Julian dates, as well as representations for the Relative Day and the Day-of-Week values for all dates.

COMPARE ANY TWO DATES IN ANY FORMATS

DS2000R1 is the DateServer 2000 routine to compare any two dates in any of the thirty six different formats. To compare any two dates, the user calls DS2000R1 passing three parameters, i.e. the two dates to be compared and a three byte type/return code parameter.

VALIDATION OF ANY DATE

DS2000R1 is the DateServer 2000 routine to check the validity of any date value between January 1, 0001 and December 31, 9999.

DATE CONVERSION FROM ANY FORMAT TO ANY OTHER FORMAT

DS2000R2 is the DateServer 2000 routine to convert any date in any of the thirty six different formats to any other format. To convert any date to any other format, the user calls DS2000R2 passing three parameters, i.e. the input date, an output date area, and a three byte type/return code parameter.

DETERMINE DAY OF WEEK FOR ANY DATE

DS2000R2 is the DateServer 2000 routine to determine the day of week for any valid date in any of the thirty six different formats.

DIFFERENCE IN DAYS BETWEEN ANY TWO DATES

To calculate the number of days between any two dates, the user calls DS2000R3 passing three parameters, i.e. the two dates and a seven byte type/return parameter.

DIFFERENCE IN YEARS AND DAYS BETWEEN ANY TWO DATES

To calculate the number of years and days between any two dates, the user calls DS2000R4 passing three parameters, i.e. the two dates and a seven byte type/return parameter.

ADDING OR SUBTRACTING DAYS TO OR FROM ANY DATE

To calculate a new date by adding to or subtracting from a given date any number of days, the user calls DS2000R5 passing three parameters, i.e. the input date, an output date area, and a seven byte type/return parameter that includes the number of days to be used in the calculation.

ADDING OR SUBTRACTING MONTHS TO OR FROM ANY DATE

To calculate a new date by adding to or subtracting from a given date any number of months, the user calls DS2000R6 passing three parameters, i.e. the input date, an output date area, and a seven byte type/return parameter that includes the number of months to be used in the calculation.
