Century Services, Inc. (CSI) will offer VISION 2000SM to provide project management, analysis, conversion/test and integration services to date sensitive, legacy based computer operations. VISION 2000SM is a total system solution composed of the following:

Global Impact Analysis (GIA)
CSI recognizes that rigorous assessment, planning and analysis is the hallmark of the technical approach for a total and successful solution to the Year 2000 conversion project. The purpose of the GIA phase is to assess the impact of the date changes and to develop a cost effective solution for conversion and testing. To perform the GIA thoroughly and within a limited time frame, CSI utilizes its proprietary, automated tools to minimize errors and reduce costs. CSI's GIA is composed of the following activities:
- Establish and develop the lines of communication between CSI and the Client
- Establish reporting procedures to be used during the GIA phase
- Assign personnel from each company to be primary contacts
- Develop initial baseline inventory using CSI's proprietary tools (missing and/or duplicate code)
- Analyze date usage and develop partitions using CSI's century date scanner tool
- Perform impact analysis using csiCASE tools (# of Programs and Lines of Code - Direct and Indirect - impacted by date change)
- Develop conversion and testing strategy including estimation of resources and schedule using CSI's proprietary resource modeling tool
- Deliver a fixed cost proposal for the conversion, testing and implementation of the system
The GIA from CSI utilizes a robust server-based set of tools with a high confidence level of identifying all lines of code (direct and indirect) impacted by the date change. Over 75 reports can be provided to our clients which include:
- Validation and verification information between the application component
- Statistical information concerning the application component including lines of code, number of copybooks, number of sub-programs, number of flat files, etc.
- Cross reference information on relationship between the application components
- Analysis information on select figures considered relevant to the conversion complexity of a component
CSI strongly believes its GIA methodology and toolset is the most robust and thorough in the industry.
Conversion/Test
CSI's conversion/test approach is based on the use of a synergistic combination of automated tools and procedures and computer-assisted manual tasks coordinated to produce consistent, standard results. CSI's Change of Century Analysis and Conversion Toolset (COCACT) was developed specifically for Year 2000 analyses and conversions. COCACT is able to analyze/convert COBOL and PL/1 main programs, subprograms, copybooks, JCL, database definitions and other components.
Conversion: COCACT is a PC Windows based toolset that operates in both Batch (automatically changes source code based on predefined rules) and Interactive Modes. In both conversion modes, COCACT will comment out the original statement that needs to be modified and provide a duplicate of the original statement. All changes will be flagged for configuration management purposes and will be used for reference, if discrepancies are found during testing. Temporary bridges will be developed during this phase to provide transparent and consistent data view of the modified date fields to the yet-to-be modified portion of the application software. Bridge programming is 90% automated through the use of COCACT's Bridging Template.
Testing: CSI will perform unit testing which includes compiling converted application code and executing the code using current business data, century data, and data that triggers change of century based events. CSI will work with its clients in developing test scripts for System and Enterprise testing.
Off Shore Alliance
COCACT was developed by Taiwan's Institute for Information Industry (III) under the direction of Century Services, Inc. At the end of the 1970's, Taiwan recognized that a comprehensive strategy was needed to lead industrial restructuring and spur industrial upgrading in order to boost the overall strength of Taiwan. After extensive evaluation, the government designated the information industry as the concentration point of this strategy. As a result, the Institute for Information Industry was established in 1979. For the past 17 years, III has dedicated every effort in promoting the application of information technology (IT). III has achieved significant results in developing advanced software technologies, cultivating needed IT talent, establishing a sound environment for IT development and assisting in government and private computerization projects. During this time, Taiwan's information industry has grown rapidly, reaching an annual production value in excess of $10 Billion and becoming Taiwan's second largest export business.
Starting in 1979 with 28 employees, III has grown steadily to over 2000 employees. Over half of III employees hold Master's or higher degrees and over three-fourths are information professionals. Major international clients include AT&T;, DEC, HP, Intel, Microsoft, NCR, Wang and III is currently participating in a Joint Venture with IBM.
In 1994, III was tasked by Century Services, Inc. to develop COCACT. As the author of COCACT, III has trained over 100 of its employees on COCACT.
