Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North

Marine, turned Senatorial Candidate

Never actually imprisoned for lying to congress.
This page was started after I realized the dream of sharing my fascination with and collection of Oliver North-related materials. For me, he is a real American hero, who in spite of his brazen disregard for the laws and democratic processes of this country, continues to enjoy the respect, and even admiration, of legions of patriotic souls.

Me and Ollie North:

Then Senatorial-Candidate Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North and I when he came to speak at the University of Delaware in October 1993. It was an earnest but unremarkable speech, punctuated by frequent references to conservative rallying points which ignited in the audience a clapping, whooping, up on their feet stomping frenzy. Ollie signed Dugout
Ollie signed Dugout
After I saw him speak, I approached the stage with my Dugout, a piece of marijuana paraphernalia. I was second in the signing line, Dugout and permanent marker in hand. When I strode up, and presented these to him, he asked, "You want me to sign this?" I nodded, "I made it for my grandfather in woodshop, and he'd get a big kick out of it if you would sign it." He replied with a smile, "Why sure son." He signed it with a flourish and looked on to the next eager Ollie fan.
People have expressed disbelief - they can't believe that he really signed such a thing. Plus, since it is scanned, I could have faked the signature - laid it on or something. So, I called the Oliver North Campaign headquarters in Virginia, during his senate campaign of '94, and told them I had donated some money, and I wanted my signed picture of Ollie. They sent me this photograph, which offers a slightly different but essentially indentical signature (with a personal greeting).
To Justin with all the very best.

Oliver North has his own page!

He was telling his life story - including some naughty parts! He does have a disarming sense of humour. But he took it all down!

Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting has a story online about Oliver's North's being banned from Costa Rica and some coverage of iran contra.

Ollie lost his first senate campaign. The Virginian-Pilot newspape set up a server to coordinate information on the '94 Virginia Senate Campaign. articles from the paper, as well as profiles of each of the candidates. If you are at all interested in this modern American political circus, this page has tons of wonderful stuff for you. if it was still up! no more. sorry.

Time Magazine Online has some articles about Ollie:

An April article about the Virginia Senate race following scathing attacks from both Nancy Reagen and Al Gore. Wow - you know you've got some bad karma going when that happens.

A November article about Oliver North after Al gore got in trouble for his broadsides.

In this article posted in alt.current-events.clinton.whitewater, this guy tries to prove a link between Ollie and Clinton with reference to Whitewatergate. I don't know 'bout that, but there is some info here about Ollie and drugs and arms and Iran Contra. The Conspiracy Nation archives has a file about Ollie North and Drugs that seems to corroborate some of this material.

Here's an article about Ollie:

Judge Denies North Pistol-Permit Renewal

New York Times, Sunday August 7, 1994

Moneta, Va., Aug. 6 - A Virginia judge has denied Oliver L. North, the state's Republican nominee for the Senate, a permit to carry a concealed weapon "on the ground that the applicant is not of good character."

The judge, James L. Berry of Clarke County Circuit Court, cited Mr. North's conviction for obstructing Congress during the investigation into the Iran-contra affair, which took place when Mr. North was on the staff of National Security Council in the Reagan Administration. Mr. North, who lives in Berryville, in Clarke County, succeeded in having the conviction overturned on appeal.

Judge Berry, who said he was a Democrat, wrote in an order that was mailed to Mr. North on Monday, "This courty is unable to ignore his convictions for crimes based on moral turpitude, even though his convictions were later overturned."

Mr. North said he needed to wear a pistol because of a threat on his life in 1987 by Abu Nidal, the leader of a Palestinian terrorist organization. "The threat is real," Mr. North said at a reception here on Friday, adding he would appeal the decision."

In 1992, Judge Berry issued Mr. North a permit to carry two 9-millimeter pistols and a .38-caliber revolver. The permit expired in March, and Mr. North had sought to renew it. Mr. North, who campaigned today at a rifle range and a gun show, called the denial retribution politics.

"Nothing else in my life has changed except I am now a candidate for the U.S. Senate," said Mr. North, who is the chairman of a company that makes bulletproof vests. ""It is a matter of public record that one of the most brutal assassins in the world publicly threatened me with assassination."
